Terms and conditions for the Viasat: Space for Good 2025 Competition - US Universities (the "Competition")
By entering the Competition, you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions (these "Terms and Conditions"). Promotional materials relating to the Competition, including all information on how to enter the Competition, also form part of these Terms and Conditions. In the event of any conflict between any terms referred to in such promotion materials and these Terms and Conditions, these Terms and Conditions take precedence.
1. The promoter of this Competition is Viasat Inc ("Viasat") whose address is at 6155 El Camino Real. Carlsbad, CA 92009. The co-promoter of this Competition is The Education Hub Group Limited trading as Springpod (company number: 10150500), whose address is Unit 5 2 Mill Street, London, United Kingdom, SE1 2BD ("Springpod").
2. Participants must be at least eighteen (18) years old and must be a student enrolled in an Eligible Discipline in a Bachelor or higher degree (“Relevant Degree”) at an Eligible University, with a final graduation date for their Relevant Degree within the graduation window set forth in the table at the end of these Terms and Conditions. The “Eligible Disciplines”, “Eligible Universities”, and required graduation window are listed at the end of these Terms and Conditions. Participants must have internet access and be legally resident within the USA. Employees and agents of either Viasat or Springpod, or any of their respective subsidiary or affiliated companies, and their immediate families and members of their households and anyone otherwise connected with operation or fulfilment of the Competition are not eligible to take part. Viasat reserves the right to require participants to prove that they are eligible. If the winner(s) of a prize are found to be ineligible, Viasat reserves the right to award the prize concerned to another participant and to require the return of any prize already awarded to such an ineligible winner.
3. Participants will enter the Competition individually (no groups).
4. Starting 8:00 am (London time) Wednesday 8 January 2025 you will be able to register and carry out the below Application Process in order to enter the Competition. You can also submit your 'interest' from this date and receive updates on the competition. All answers to enter Phase 1 of the Competition must be submitted between 8:00 am (London time) Monday 27 January 2025 and no later than by 11:59 pm (London time) on Sunday 2 March 2025. You are required to complete the below Application Process (as mentioned below) in order to submit your responses, so please plan for enough time before this deadline. There are three (3) phases to the Competition, as set out below:
How to enter
Phase 1 – Question and answer
Phase 1 of the Competition will operate on the Springpod website at the following URL address: springpod.viasat.com (the "Website"). The Competition will be run and entries will be expected to be submitted in English.
- Participants are invited to submit answers to four (4) questions via an online form located on the Website, and to be accessed as follows: each participant will need to first create an account/log in on the Website (the "Account") and complete an application form by 2 March 2025 (the "Application Process"), in order to enter the Competition, access the content of the questions and submit their entries throughout the Competition, as well as to access a series of webinars and other resources with useful information during the Competition. Once the Application Process has been completed, the participants will receive an email to the email address indicated in their application form, confirming if their application has been accepted, their log in details and access to the platform where the content of the competition's assignments and online form for Phase 1 will be available.
- The maximum character limit per answer shall be indicated in the Website but this is planned to be: (i) 200 words for question #1, (ii) 400 words for question #2, (iii) 200 words for question #3 and (iv) 200 words for question #4.
- The questions shall have a space theme. Viasat shall release the questions on the Website on or before the date that the Competition commences on Monday 27 January 2025. You may carry out the Application Process from 8:00 am (London time) Wednesday 8 January 2025 but entries cannot be submitted until after the questions are released on the Website.
- All answers must be submitted to the online form located on the Website by 11:59 pm (London time) on Sunday 2 March 2025.
- If more than 3,000 entries are received, a maximum of 3,000 entries will be randomly selected for review and marking. All answers shall be assessed by Springpod and an experienced assessor. The participants who submitted the entries ranked to be within the top 100 entries received, shall be progressed to Phase 2 of the Competition. The ranking of all Phase 1 entries shall be based on the judging criteria available at http://springpod.viasat.com/marking-rubric. Any ties between entries competing to be in the top 100 will be resolved by random selection.
- Springpod shall notify the successful participants, who are through to Phase 2 of the Competition, on or before Monday 24 March 2025 using the email address notified with their entries when they were submitted to the Website and also via their Account.
Phase 2 – Digital Entry
- Successful participants from Phase 1 will be invited to use the questions asked for Phase 1 and expand on their proposed solution/answers, by submitting their proposed solution in a digital format that is either video, reel, animation, or audio, of no more than ninety (90) seconds in length their answer and proposed solution to the questions (the “Phase 2 Entry”). We encourage you to use any tools you have access to and to be creative.
- Participants must create and submit a Phase 2 Entry which explains in more detail the solution they have proposed in answering the questions in Phase 1. Participants can detail their solution in one or more of the areas of policy, design, and technical solutions. As well as a very brief overview of your concept, your digital submission should focus on the following information: (i) The cost, (ii) Feasibility, (iii) Originality, (iv) Energy efficiency, (v) Waste minimisation, (vi) Longevity & durability, (vii) Sustainable design and materials, and (viii) Regulatory hurdles.
- The Phase 2 Entry must be submitted via the Participant's Account in mp4 format for any video/reel or animation, or mp3 format for audio, and maximum file size of 100MB irrespective of format. Students can only submit one file. If they have multiple files, they may create a ZIP file and upload this.
- This Phase 2 of the Competition commences on Monday 24 March 2025. All Phase 2 Entries must be submitted on or before 11:59 pm (London time) Sunday 4 May 2025.
- All Digital Entries shall be assessed by Springpod and an independent experienced assessor. The participants who created the Phase 2 Entries ranked by Springpod and the assessor to be within the top 8 entries shall be progressed to Phase 3 of the Competition and will be notified they have been selected on or before Monday 19 May 2025. The ranking of all Phase 2 Entries shall be based on the on the judging criteria available at http://springpod.viasat.com/marking-rubric. Any ties between entries competing to be in the top 8 will be resolved by random selection.
Phase 3 – Finals
- Successful participants from Phase 2 (the “Finalists”) are invited to present their Phase 1 answers/proposed solution and the content of their Phase 2 Entries, based on the judging criteria available at http://springpod.viasat.com/marking-rubric (and based on the objectives to be informed to participants prior to the event), to a panel of judges (including at least 1 (one) independent judge) at an in-person final event to be held during the week of August 10, 2025. The exact date and time of the Final as well as the expected objectives will be confirmed to the email of the Finalists as well as to their guardian, as indicated in the application form (the "Final").
- At the Final, Finalists will be asked to present in a fifteen (15) minute presentation, their explanation to the panel. This 15-minute presentation period will be followed by an additional fifteen (15) minute discussion period during which the Finalists should be prepared to engage in conversation with the panel. The presentation shall include a comprehensive overview of the Finalists' idea/solution, which may include various forms of digital media, physical media/prototypes, and other methods of illustrating and demonstrating your proposed solution. Finalists will be expected to—at minimum—have presentation slides (Google, PowerPoint, Prezi, etc.) to accompany their 15-minute verbal presentation. Finalists are welcomed but not required to bring additional elements (e.g., prototypes, printed materials, etc.). Additionally, Finalists must submit a written executive summary of their proposed solution for the presentation, of maximum 750 words and not exceeding two (2) pages, which must be submitted via the Website or email, as communicated by Viasat, at least ten (10) business days prior to the Final. A template will be provided on the Website or by email, which Finalists must use for their executive summary.
- Phase 3 of the Competition shall commence when the objectives are released to Finalists (via the email indicated above) on or before Monday 19 May 2025.
- Each participant will be assigned one (1) mentor to coach them through this Phase of the Competition and help them to craft and refine their presentation ("Mentor"). Each Mentor shall be an employee of Viasat or one of Viasat's group companies.
- Mentors shall check in with their participants regularly in the run-up to the Final. These check-ins could be offered online or in person, depending on where the Mentor is based and the participants live. Mentors can support each participant with soft skills (e.g. presentation skills and techniques and the structure of the presentation) but cannot give advice on the content of the presentation which shall be delivered within the Final.
- Each Finalist shall be entitled to at least two (2), one (1)-hour sessions (online), to receive support from their Mentor before the Final, and at least two (2), four (4)-hour in-person session the days before the Final in the Venue (defined below), to be scheduled sometime between the hours of 8 am and 9 pm (local time), as communicated to the Finalists in advance to their email.
- The Final shall take place in-person at Viasat’s office at 6155 El Camino Real, Carlsbad, CA 92009 USA (the "Venue") and participants shall be notified of the date and time of the Final no later than 13 June 2025.
- For Finalists to attend the Final, Viasat will assume the following costs: for Finalists that live outside of the Venue: (a) travel costs of each Finalist, from their city of residence within the United States to the Venue and from the Venue to their city of residence (travel means to be selected by Viasat in its sole discretion), (b) accommodation in Venue (3-4 star hotel, chosen by Viasat, breakfast included) for each Finalist, for three (3) nights (i.e. to cover the night before the Final, the night of the Final and the night following the Final). Viasat will also offer a gift card to cover reasonable expenses (the amount to be determined by Viasat in its sole discretion) per Finalist ("Ground Travel Giftcard") for the first day of inbound to the Venue and a second Ground Travel Giftcard for the last day, outbound out of the Venue. Finalists will be responsible for transport to the airport or train station in their city of residence, and transport to the hotel once in the Venue. All travel and accommodation shall be arranged by Viasat who will contact the Finalist for booking. Once issued, any train tickets cannot be re-issued, and date or routing changes are not permitted. All trains and accommodation are subject to availability and usual booking terms and conditions apply. The train tickets and hotel vouchers offered by Viasat cannot be applied to the cost of any previously purchased reservations or other miscellaneous charges.
- Finalists will be contacted to the email address that they indicated when they registered in the Competition, to confirm their attendance prior to the Final, and arrange travel and accommodation with Viasat, one (1) month before the Final. Viasat will directly manage, choose and book all necessary travel to and out of the Venue, and accommodation in coordination with the Finalists. No reimbursement is possible.
- The overall winner shall be chosen by the judging panel at the Final, from all complete, eligible, properly presented submissions at the Final. The winner shall be notified that they have won on the day of the Final and there will be one (1) final winner selected for each of the following places: first, second and third place. Any ties of presentations competing for the same place will be selected at random.
5. Entry to the Competition is free; no purchase is necessary.
6. To enter the Competition, you must enter in accordance with the details in Section 4 above. Entries submitted by any other means will not be accepted: only those submitted via the official method of entry. Any illegible, incomplete or fraudulent entries will be rejected. Participants may make a maximum of 1 entry into the Competition and participants may not enter the Competition more than once. Any entries in addition to this may result in their disqualification. The prizes to be won are the following, depending on each place awarded at the end of the Final (each, a "Prize"):
First place
- $15,000 cash prize to be paid by Viasat directly to the student’s university with the purpose of supporting their education-related expenses.
- Invitation to participate in three (3) additional Viasat mentor sessions (online) over six (6) months (max. 1 hour per session), to provide expertise around career tracks and help the students understand career future in STEM and opportunities they can explore.
- Viasat branded goodies.
Second place
- $10,000 cash prize (per person) to be paid by Viasat directly to the student’s university with the purpose of supporting their education-related expenses.
- Invitation to participate in three (3) additional Viasat mentor sessions (online) over six (6) months (max. 1 hour per session), to provide expertise around career tracks and help the students understand career future in STEM and opportunities they can explore.
- Viasat branded goodies.
Third place
- $5,000 cash prize (per person) to be paid by Viasat directly to the student’s university with the purpose of supporting their education-related expenses.
- Invitation to participate in three (3) additional Viasat mentor sessions (online) over six (6) months (max. 1 hour per session), to provide expertise around career tracks and help the students understand career future in STEM and opportunities they can explore.
- Viasat branded goodies.
Other Finalists not selected for first, second or third place (`runners')
- Invitation to participate in three (3) additional Viasat mentor sessions (online) over six (6) months (max. 1 hour per session), to provide expertise around career tracks and help the students understand career future in STEM and opportunities they can explore.
7. Viasat will contact the winner to their indicated email address following the Final with instructions on how to redeem the Prizes. All cash Prizes will be paid directly to the eligible winner’s university no later than 90 days from the date winners are announced. Winners must provide their university’s financial office/bursar details for them to remit the university’s American bank account and communicate its details to Viasat to receive the electronic transfer. For cash Prizes, winners shall supply any info needed to pay no later than 10 business days from the date winners are announced.
8. The winners are responsible for paying all associated costs that are not specifically stated in these Terms and Conditions, including (where applicable) meal costs, spending money, cost to obtain any necessary travel documents and any and all other incidentals, and any tax liability associated with the Prizes. Each Prize is as stated and is nonexchangeable and non-transferable. There is no cash or other alternative to the Prizes in whole or in part. By participating in the Competition, participants agree that the Prizes are awarded on an "as is" basis, and that neither Viasat, Springpod nor any of their subsidiary or affiliated companies, make any representations or warranties of any nature with respect to the Prizes.
9. The winner(s) may be required to submit valid identification before receiving their Prize.
10. In the event that, for reasons beyond Viasat's reasonable control and not related to the winner(s), Viasat is unable to award a Prize as described in these Terms and Conditions, Viasat reserves the right to award a prize of a similar nature and an equivalent value.
11. By entering the Competition, participants agree to have their name, photograph, image, likeness, statements, sound of the participant's voice, and recordings (including, but not limited to, livestream) of their participation in the Competition and the Final ("Media Materials") featured in publicity materials relating to the Competition (including, but not limited to, all of Springpod's and Viasat's websites and social media channels) without further reference, payment or other compensation. This also includes making their name as the winner available on the Website, between 2025 and 2028. Details of the winner(s) will also be made available to participants and the public on request by sending an email to privacy@viasat.com no later than two (2) months after the Final. Participant grants Viasat and Springpod a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free right and license to use the Media Materials in any and all publications. Participant authorizes Viasat and Springpod to edit, alter, copy, exhibit, publish or distribute the Media Materials for purposes of publicizing Viasat, or for any other lawful purpose.
12. Springpod will collect and process participants' personal information in order to conduct the Competition in accordance with its privacy policy. Participant and Participant guardian name, email address, as well as personal details from their entry to the Competition will be transferred by Springpod to Viasat's agents to the extent necessary for the prize to be redeemed by the winner(s) and for Viasat the administer the Competition. If participants do not provide any of the mandatory information or parental permissions requested when entering the Competition, they may not take part in the Competition. Participants' names and other personal details from their entry to the Competition received and stored by Viasat will be processed for the purposes of administering the Competition, and, in limited cases, further outreach from Viasat in accordance with Viasat's privacy notice. Any contact and/or invitations from Viasat to participate in further outreach activities are not offers of employment. You may also be contacted and invited by Viasat and/or Springpod to complete optional/voluntary surveys about your experience, throughout and after the Competition.
13. Viasat reserves the right to modify, cancel, terminate or suspend the Competition in whole or in part, at its sole discretion, if it believes the Competition is not capable of being conducted as specified within these Terms and Conditions or in the event of a virus, a computer bug or unauthorized human intervention or any other cause that is beyond the reasonable control of Viasat that could corrupt or affect the administration, security, impartiality or normal course of the Competition. Neither Viasat or Springpod, nor any of their respective subsidiary or affiliated companies, are responsible for any condition, circumstances, losses, failures or delays caused by events beyond its or their control such as (but not limited to) the acts or defaults of any supplier selected by Viasat to provide the Prizes or otherwise that may cause the Competition to be disrupted or corrupted.
14. As between each participant and Viasat, Viasat shall own all the copyright and other intellectual property rights vesting in the entries submitted to the Competition and any other materials (whether visual, oral or written) generated during the various stages of this Competition, in perpetuity and on a worldwide basis for use at Viasat's sole discretion including, without limitation, use in advertising, other media, press releases, editorial and promotional activity, point of sale material, Viasat's websites, third party websites (including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube), newsletters and e-newsletters. Participants shall not incorporate any third-party materials into the entries submitted to the Competition without prior permission from the third party. Participants' entries shall be genuine, and all third-party sources must be properly referenced. Viasat reserves the right to disqualify any participant based on any plagiarism or misused third-party content. For clarity, all use of AI tools is strictly prohibited.
15. Accordingly participants hereby assign to Viasat any copyright and other intellectual property rights which exist in their participation in this Competition to Viasat and irrevocably waive any moral rights they may have that could vest in them under the Copyrights, Designs and Patents Act 1988 or otherwise, and undertake to do all things necessary immediately on Viasat's request to effect or confirm any assignment in this paragraph.
16. Neither Viasat nor Springpod will be responsible for any lost, damaged, defaced, incomplete, illegible or otherwise unreadable entries. Nothing in these Terms and Conditions shall in any way limit Viasat's or Springpod's liability for death or personal injury caused by its negligence or for any other matter where liability may not as a matter of law be limited.
17. Any participant who enters or attempts to enter the Competition in a manner, which in Viasat or Springpod reasonable determination is contrary to these Terms and Conditions or by its nature is unjust to other entrants (including without limitation tampering with the operation of the Competition, cheating, hacking, deception or any other unfair playing practices such as intending to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other entrants or Viasat / Springpod and/or any of their agents or representatives) may be rejected from the Competition at Viasat or Springpod's sole discretion. Furthermore, where such actions have significantly impaired the Competition, Viasat may, at its sole discretion, add further stages to the Competition as it deems reasonably necessary in order to resolve any problems arising as a result of such actions.
18. All Viasat decisions in relation to the Competition are final and Viasat will not enter into any correspondence with participants.
19. These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of California. San Diego courts shall have exclusive jurisdiction to hear any dispute or claim arising in association with the Competition or these Terms and Conditions. No choice of law rules of any jurisdiction will apply.

- This Phase 2 of the Competition commences on Monday 24 March 2025. All Phase 2 Entries must be submitted on or before 11:59 pm (London time) Sunday 4 May 2025.
- All Digital Entries shall be assessed by Springpod and a UK independent experienced assessor. The participants who created the Phase 2 Entries ranked by Springpod and the assessor to be within the top 8 entries shall be progressed to Phase 3 of the Competition and will be notified they have been selected on or before Monday 19 May 2025. The ranking of all Phase 2 Entries shall be based on the on the judging criteria available at http://springpod.viasat.com/marking-rubric. Any ties between entries competing to be in the top 8 will be resolved by random selection.
Phase 3 – Finals
- Successful participants from Phase 2 (the “Finalists”) are invited to present their Phase 1 answers/proposed solution and the content of their Phase 2 Entries, based on the judging criteria available at http://springpod.viasat.com/marking-rubric (and based on the objectives to be informed to participants prior to the event), to a panel of judges (including at least 1(one) independent judge) at an in-person final event to be held during July 2025. The exact date and time of the Final as well as the expected objectives will be confirmed to the email of the Finalists as well as to their guardian, as indicated in the application form (the "Final").
- At the Final, Finalists will be asked to present in a fifteen (15) minute presentation, their explanation to the panel. This 15-minute presentation period will be followed by an additional fifteen (15) minute discussion period during which the Finalists should be prepared to engage in conversation with the panel. The presentation shall include a comprehensive overview of the Finalists' idea/solution, which may include various forms of digital media, physical media/prototypes, and other methods of illustrating and demonstrating your proposed solution. Finalists will be expected to—at minimum—have presentation slides (Google, PowerPoint, Prezi, etc.) to accompany their 15-minute verbal presentation. Finalists are welcomed but not required to bring additional elements (e.g., prototypes, printed materials, etc.) Additionally, Finalists must submit a written executive summary of their proposed solution for the presentation, of maximum 750 words and not exceeding two (2) pages, which must be submitted via the Website or email, as communicated by Viasat, at least ten (10) business days prior to the Final. A template will be provided on the Website or by email, which Finalists must use for their executive summary.
- Phase 3 of the Competition shall commence when the objectives are released to Finalists (via the email indicated above) on Monday 19 May 2025.
- Each participant will be assigned one (1) mentor to coach them through this Phase of the Competition and help them to craft and refine their presentation ("Mentor"). Each Mentor shall be an employee of Viasat or one of Viasat's group companies.
- Mentors shall check in with their participants regularly in the run-up to the Final. These check-ins could be offered online or in person, depending on where the Mentor is based and the participants live. Mentors can support each participant with soft skills (e.g. presentation skills and techniques and the structure of the presentation) but cannot give advice on the content of the presentation which shall be delivered within the Final.
- Each Finalist shall be entitled to at least two (2) online sessions (of max. one (1)-hour), to receive support from their Mentor before the Final, and at least two (2), four (4) hour in-person sessions, the days before the Final in the Venue (defined below), to be scheduled between the hours of 9 am and 6 pm (London time), as communicated to the Finalists in advance to their email.
- The Final shall take place in-person at Viasat's offices in London (50 Finsbury Square; London; EC2A 1HD) (the "Venue") and participants shall be notified of the date and time of the Final no later than June 13, 2025.
- For Finalists to attend the Final, Viasat will assume the following costs: for Finalists that live outside of Zone 1, 2 and 3 in London: (a) travel costs of each Finalist, from their city of residence within the United Kingdom to London and from London to their city of residence within the United Kingdom (travel means to be selected by Viasat), (b) accommodation in central London (3-4 star hotel, chosen by Viasat, breakfast included) for each Finalist, for three (3) nights (i.e. to cover the night day before the Final, the night of the Final and the night following the Final). Viasat will also offer a gift card to cover reasonable expenses (the amount to be determined by Viasat in its sole discretion) per Finalist ("Ground Travel Giftcard") for the first day of inbound to London and a second Ground Travel Giftcard for the last day, outbound out of London. Finalists will be responsible for transport to airport/train station in their city of residence, and transport to hotel once in London. All travel and accommodation shall be arranged by Viasat who will contact the Finalist for booking. Once issued, any train tickets cannot be re-issued and date or routing changes are not permitted. All trains and accommodation are subject to availability and usual booking terms and conditions apply. The train tickets and hotel vouchers offered by Viasat cannot be applied to the cost of any previously purchased reservations or other miscellaneous charges.
- Finalists will be contacted to the email address that they indicated when they registered in the Competition, to confirm their attendance prior to the Final, and arrange travel and accommodation with Viasat, one (1) month before the Final. Viasat will directly manage, choose and book all necessary travel to and out of London, and accommodation in coordination with the Finalists. No reimbursement is possible.
- The overall winner shall be chosen by the judging panel at the Final, from all complete, eligible, properly presented submissions at the Final. The winner shall be notified that they have won on the day of the Final and there will be one (1) final winner selected for each of the following places: first, second and third place. Any ties of presentations competing for the same place will be selected at random.
5. Entry to the Competition is free; no purchase is necessary.
6. To enter the Competition, you must enter in accordance with the details in Section 4 above. Entries submitted by any other means will not be accepted: only those submitted via the official method of entry. Any illegible, incomplete or fraudulent entries will be rejected. Participants may make a maximum of 1 entry into the Competition and participants may not enter the Competition more than once. Any entries in addition to this may result in their disqualification. The prizes to be won are the following, depending on each place awarded at the end of the Final (each, a "Prize"):

7. Viasat will contact the winner to their indicated email address following the Final with instructions on how to redeem the Prizes. All cash Prizes will be paid to the eligible winner’s university no later than 90 days from the date winners are announced. Winners must provide their university’s financial office/bursar details for them to remit the university’s UK bank account and communicate its details to Viasat to receive the electronic transfer. For cash Prizes, winners shall supply any info needed to pay no later than 10 business days from the date winners are announced.
8. The winners are responsible for paying all associated costs that are not specifically stated in these Terms and Conditions, including (where applicable) meal costs, spending money, cost to obtain any necessary travel documents and any and all other incidentals, and any tax liability associated with the Prizes. Each Prize is as stated and is nonexchangeable and non-transferable. There is no cash or other alternative to the Prizes in whole or in part. By participating in the Competition, participants agree that the Prizes are awarded on an "as is" basis, and that neither Viasat, Springpod nor any of their subsidiary or affiliated companies, make any representations or warranties of any nature with respect to the Prizes.
9. The winner(s) may be required to submit valid identification before receiving their Prize.
10. In the event that, for reasons beyond Viasat's reasonable control and not related to the winner(s), Viasat is unable to award a Prize as described in these Terms and Conditions, Viasat reserves the right to award a prize of a similar nature and an equivalent value.
11. By entering the Competition, participants agree to have their name, photograph, image, likeness, statements, sound of the participant's voice, and recordings (including, but not limited to, livestream) of their participation in the Competition and the Final ("Media Materials") featured in publicity materials relating to the Competition (including, but not limited to, all of Springpod's and Viasat's websites and social media channels) without further reference, payment or other compensation. This also includes making their name as the winner available on the Website, between 2025 and 2028. Details of the winner(s) will also be made available to participants and the public on request by sending an email to privacy@viasat.com no later than two (2) months after the Final. Participant grants Viasat and Springpod a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free right and license to use the Media Materials in any and all publications. Participant authorizes Viasat and Springpod to edit, alter, copy, exhibit, publish or distribute the Media Materials for purposes of publicizing Viasat, or for any other lawful purpose.
12. Springpod will collect and process participants' personal information in order to conduct the Competition in accordance with its privacy policy. Participant email address, as well as personal details from their entry to the Competition will be transferred by Springpod to Viasat's agents to the extent necessary for the prize to be redeemed by the winner(s) and for Viasat the administer the Competition. If participants do not provide any of the mandatory information requested when entering the Competition, they may not take part in the Competition. Participants' names and other personal details from their entry to the Competition received and stored by Viasat will be processed for the purposes of administering the Competition, and, in limited cases, further outreach from Viasat in accordance with Viasat's privacy notice. Any contact and/or invitations from Viasat to participate in further outreach activities are not offers of employment. You may also be contacted and invited by Viasat and/or Springpod to complete optional/voluntary surveys about your experience, throughout and after the Competition.
13. Viasat reserves the right to modify, cancel, terminate or suspend the Competition in whole or in part, at its sole discretion, if it believes the Competition is not capable of being conducted as specified within these Terms and Conditions or in the event of a virus, a computer bug or unauthorized human intervention or any other cause that is beyond the reasonable control of Viasat that could corrupt or affect the administration, security, impartiality or normal course of the Competition. Neither Viasat or Springpod, nor any of their respective subsidiary or affiliated companies, are responsible for any condition, circumstances, losses, failures or delays caused by events beyond its or their control such as (but not limited to) the acts or defaults of any supplier selected by Viasat to provide the Prizes or otherwise that may cause the Competition to be disrupted or corrupted.
14. As between each participant and Viasat, Viasat shall own all the copyright and other intellectual property rights vesting in the entries submitted to the Competition and any other materials (whether visual, oral or written) generated during the various stages of this Competition, in perpetuity and on a worldwide basis for use at Viasat's sole discretion including, without limitation, use in advertising, other media, press releases, editorial and promotional activity, point of sale material, Viasat's websites, third party websites (including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube), newsletters and e-newsletters. Participants shall not incorporate any third-party materials into the entries submitted to the Competition without prior permission from the third party. Participants' entries shall be genuine, and all third-party sources must be properly referenced. Viasat reserves the right to disqualify any participant based on any plagiarism or third-party content misused. For clarity, all use of AI tools is strictly prohibited.
15. Accordingly, participants hereby assign to Viasat any copyright and other intellectual property rights which exist in their participation in this Competition to Viasat and irrevocably waive any moral rights they may have that could vest in them under the Copyrights, Designs and Patents Act 1988 or otherwise, and undertake to do all things necessary immediately on Viasat's request to effect or confirm any assignment in this paragraph.
16. Neither Viasat nor Springpod will be responsible for any lost, damaged, defaced, incomplete, illegible or otherwise unreadable entries. Nothing in these Terms and Conditions shall in any way limit Viasat's or Springpod's liability for death or personal injury caused by its negligence or for any other matter where liability may not as a matter of law be limited.
17. Any participant who enters or attempts to enter the Competition in a manner, which in Viasat or Springpod reasonable determination is contrary to these Terms and Conditions or by its nature is unjust to other entrants (including without limitation tampering with the operation of the Competition, cheating, hacking, deception or any other unfair playing practices such as intending to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other entrants or Viasat / Springpod and/or any of their agents or representatives) may be rejected from the Competition at Viasat or Springpod's sole discretion. Furthermore, where such actions have significantly impaired the Competition, Viasat may, at its sole discretion, add further stages to the Competition as it deems reasonably necessary in order to resolve any problems arising as a result of such actions.
18. All Viasat decisions in relation to the Competition are final and Viasat will not enter into any correspondence with participants.
19. These Terms and Conditions are governed by English law. The courts of England and Wales shall have exclusive jurisdiction to hear any dispute or claim arising in association with the Competition or these Terms and Conditions.

Terms and conditions for the Viasat: Space for Good 2025 Competition- UK Schools (the "Competition")
By entering the Competition, you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions (these "Terms and Conditions"). Promotional materials relating to the Competition, including all information on how to enter the Competition, also form part of these Terms and Conditions. In the event of any conflict between any terms referred to in such promotion materials and these Terms and Conditions, these Terms and Conditions take precedence.
1. The promoter of this Competition is Viasat UK Limited (company number: 03007498) ("Viasat") whose address is at Royal Pavilion, Tower 2 Fourth Floor, Wellesley Road, Aldershot, England, GU11 1PZ. The co-promoter of this Competition is The Education Hub Group Limited trading as Springpod (company number: 10150500), whose address is Unit 5 2 Mill Street, London, United Kingdom, SE1 2BD ("Springpod").
2. Participants must be age 16-18 as of January 8, 2025, and must be enrolled in an A-Level (or Scottish equivalent) accredited school within the United Kingdom. Participants must have internet access and be legally resident within the United Kingdom at the time of registration. Participants must have the permission of a parent or legal guardian to enter the Competition and must provide evidence of this permission when requested by Viasat or Springpod. Participants must not have been finalists (i.e. selected for Phase 3) in the Viasat: Beyond Space 2024 Competition. Employees and agents of either Viasat or Springpod, or any of their respective subsidiary or affiliated companies, and their immediate families and members of their households and anyone otherwise connected with operation or fulfilment of the Competition are not eligible to take part. Viasat reserves the right to require participants to prove that they are eligible and they have the parental permissions required. If the winner(s) of a prize are found to be ineligible, Viasat reserves the right to award the prize concerned to another participant and to require the return of any prize already awarded to such an ineligible winner.
3. Participants will enter the Competition individually (no groups).
4. Starting 8:00 am (London time) Wednesday 8 January 2025 you will be able to register and carry out the below Application Process in order to enter the Competition. You can also submit your 'interest' from this date and receive updates on the competition. All answers to enter Phase 1 of the Competition must be submitted between 8:00 am (London time) Monday 27 January 2025 and no later than by 11:59 pm (London time) on Sunday 2 March 2025. You are required to complete the below Application Process (as mentioned below) in order to submit your responses, so please plan for enough time before this deadline. There are three (3) phases to the Competition, as set out below:
How to enter
Phase 1 – Question and answer
Phase 1 of the Competition will operate on the Springpod website at the following URL address: springpod.viasat.com (the "Website"). The Competition will be run and entries will be expected to be submitted in English.
- Participants are invited to submit answers to three (3) questions via an online form located on the Website, and to be accessed as follows: each participant will need to first create an account/log in on the Website (the "Account") and complete an application form which will also ask to validate their parent/guardian's consent by 2 March 2025 (the "Application Process"), in order to enter the Competition, access the content of the questions and submit their entries throughout the Competition, as well as to access a series of webinars and other resources with useful information during the Competition. Once the Application Process has been completed, the participants will receive an email to the email address indicated in their application form, confirming if their application has been accepted, their log in details and access to the platform where the content of the competition's assignments and online form for Phase 1 will be available.
- The maximum character limit per answer shall be indicated in the Website but this is planned to be: (i) 200 words for question #1, (ii) 400 words for question #2, and (iii) 200 words for question #3.
- The questions shall have a space theme. Viasat shall release the questions on the Website on or before the date that the Competition commences on Monday 27 January 2025. You may carry out the Application Process from 8:00 am (London time) Wednesday 8 January 2025 but entries cannot be submitted until after the questions are released on the Website.
- All answers must be submitted to the online form located on the Website by 11:59 pm (London time) on Sunday 2 March 2025.
- If more than 1,500 entries are received, a maximum of 1,500 entries will be randomly selected for review and marking. All answers shall be assessed by Springpod and a UK experienced assessor. The participants who submitted the entries ranked by Springpod and the UK experienced assessor to be within the top 100 entries marked, shall be progressed to Phase 2 of the Competition. The ranking of all Phase 1 entries shall be based on the judging criteria available at http://springpod.viasat.com/marking-rubric. Any ties between entries competing to be in the top 100 will be resolved by random selection.
- Springpod shall notify the successful participants, who are through to Phase 2 of the Competition, on or before Monday 24 March 2025 using the email address notified with their entries when they were submitted to the Website and also via their Account.
Phase 2 – Digital Entry
- Successful participants from Phase 1 will be invited to use the questions asked for Phase 1 and expand on their proposed solution/answers, by submitting their proposed solution in a digital format that is either video, reel, animation or audio, of no more than sixty (60) seconds in length, their answer and proposed solution to the question (the “Phase 2 Entry”). We encourage you to use any tools you have access to and to be creative.
- Participants must create and submit a Phase 2 Entry which explains in more detail the solution they have proposed in answering the questions in Phase 1. Participants can detail their solution in one or more of the areas of policy, design, and technical solutions. As well as a very brief overview of your concept, your digital submission should focus on the following information: (i) Expected outcomes of your solution, (ii) Financial, environmental, and cybersecurity considerations, (iii) Sustainability, (iv) System end-of-life procedure(s), and (v) Differentiation from existing solutions.
- The Phase 2 Entry must be submitted via the Participant's Account in one of the following formats listed below and maximum file size of 100MB irrespective of format. Students can only submit one file. If they have multiple files, they may create a ZIP file and upload this.

7. Viasat will contact the winner to their indicated email address following the Final with instructions on how to redeem the Prizes. All cash Prizes will be paid directly to eligible winners no later than 90 days from the date winners are announced. Winners must have an UK bank account and communicate its details to Viasat to receive the electronic transfer. For cash Prizes, winners shall supply any info needed to pay no later than 10 business days from the date winners are announced.
8. The winners are responsible for paying all associated costs that are not specifically stated in these Terms and Conditions, including (where applicable) meal costs, spending money, cost to obtain any necessary travel documents, and any and all other incidentals, and any tax liability associated with the Prizes. If the winner is a minor, the minor must be accompanied by his or her parent or legal guardian (at their own expense). The Prizes are as stated and is nonexchangeable and non-transferable. There is no cash or other alternative to the Prizes in whole or in part. By participating in the Competition, participants agree that the Prizes are awarded on an "as is" basis, and that neither Viasat, Springpod nor any of their subsidiary or affiliated companies, make any representations or warranties of any nature with respect to the Prizes.

By entering the Competition, participants agree to have their name, photograph, image, likeness, statements, sound of the participant's voice, and recordings (including, but not limited to, livestream) of their participation in the Competition and the Final ("Media Materials") featured in publicity materials relating to the Competition (including, but not limited to, all of Springpod's and Viasat's websites and social media channels) without further reference, payment or other compensation. This also includes making their name as the winner available on the Website, between 2025 and 2028. Details of the winner(s) will also be made available to participants and the public on request by sending an email to privacy@viasat.com no later than two (2) months after the Final. 12. Springpod will collect and process participants' personal information in order to conduct the Competition in accordance with its privacy policy. Participant and Participant guardian name, email address, as well as personal details from their entry to the Competition will be transferred by Springpod to Viasat's agents to the extent necessary for the prize to be redeemed by the winner(s) and for Viasat the administer the Competition. If participants do not provide any of the mandatory information or parental permissions requested when entering the Competition, they may not take part in the Competition. Participants' names and other personal details from their entry to the Competition received and stored by Viasat will be processed for the purposes of administering the Competition, and, in limited cases, further outreach from Viasat in accordance with Viasat's privacy notice. Any contact or invitations from Viasat to participate in further outreach activities are not offers of employment. Viasat reserves the right to modify, cancel, terminate or suspend the Competition in whole or in part, at its sole discretion, if it believes the Competition is not capable of being conducted as specified within these Terms and Conditions or in the event of a virus, a computer bug or unauthorized human intervention or any other cause that is beyond the reasonable control of Viasat that could corrupt or affect the administration, security, impartiality or normal course of the Competition. Neither Viasat or Springpod, nor any of their respective subsidiary or affiliated companies, are responsible for any condition, circumstances, losses, failures or delays caused by events beyond its or their control such as (but not limited to) the acts or defaults of any supplier selected by Viasat to provide the Prizes or otherwise that may cause the Competition to be disrupted or corrupted.
14. As between each participant and Viasat, Viasat shall own all the copyright and other intellectual property rights vesting in the entries submitted to the Competition and any other materials (whether visual, oral or written) generated during the various stages of this Competition, in perpetuity and on a worldwide basis for use at Viasat's sole discretion including, without limitation, use in advertising, other media, press releases, editorial and promotional activity, point of sale material, Viasat's websites, third party websites (including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube), newsletters and e-newsletters. Participants shall not incorporate any third-party materials into the entries submitted to the Competition without prior permission from the third party. Participants' entries shall be genuine, and all third-party sources must be properly referenced. Viasat reserves the right to disqualify any participant based on any plagiarism or misused third-party content. For clarity, all use of AI tools is strictly prohibited.
15. Accordingly, participants hereby assign to Viasat any copyright and other intellectual property rights which exist in their participation in this Competition to Viasat and irrevocably waive any moral rights they may have that could vest in them under the Copyrights, Designs and Patents Act 1988 or otherwise, and undertake to do all things necessary immediately on Viasat's request to effect or confirm any assignment in this paragraph.
16. Neither Viasat nor Springpod will be responsible for any lost, damaged, defaced, incomplete, illegible or otherwise unreadable entries. Nothing in these Terms and Conditions shall in any way limit Viasat's or Springpod's liability for death or personal injury caused by its negligence or for any other matter where liability may not as a matter of law be limited.
17. Any participant who enters or attempts to enter the Competition in a manner, which in Viasat or Springpod reasonable determination is contrary to these Terms and Conditions or by its nature is unjust to other entrants (including without limitation tampering with the operation of the Competition, cheating, hacking, deception or any other unfair playing practices such as intending to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other entrants or Viasat / Springpod and/or any of their agents or representatives) may be rejected from the Competition at Viasat or Springpod's sole discretion. Furthermore, where such actions have significantly impaired the Competition, Viasat may, at its sole discretion, add further stages to the Competition as it deems reasonably necessary in order to resolve any problems arising as a result of such actions.
18. All Viasat decisions in relation to the Competition are final and Viasat will not enter into any correspondence with participants.
19. These Terms and Conditions are governed by English law. The courts of England and Wales shall have exclusive jurisdiction to hear any dispute or claim arising in association with the Competition or these Terms and Conditions.

Terms and conditions for the Viasat: Space for Good 2025 Competition – India Universities (the "Competition")
By entering the Competition, you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions (these "Terms and Conditions"). Promotional materials relating to the Competition, including all information on how to enter the Competition, also form part of these Terms and Conditions. In the event of any conflict between any terms referred to in such promotion materials and these Terms and Conditions, these Terms and Conditions take precedence.
1. The promoter of this Competition is Viasat Inc ("Viasat") whose address is at 6155 El Camino Real. Carlsbad, CA 92009. The co-promoter of this Competition is The Education Hub Group Limited trading as Springpod (company number: 10150500), whose address is Unit 5 2 Mill Street, London, United Kingdom, SE1 2BD ("Springpod").
2. Participants must be at least eighteen (18) years old and must be a student enrolled in an Eligible Discipline in a Bachelor or higher degree (“Relevant Degree”) at an Eligible University, with a final graduation date for their Relevant Degree within the graduation window set forth in the table at the end of these Terms and Conditions. The “Eligible Disciplines”, “Eligible Universities”, and required graduation window are listed at the end of these Terms and Conditions. Participants must have internet access and be legally resident within India. Employees and agents of either Viasat or Springpod, or any of their respective subsidiary or affiliated companies, and their immediate families and members of their households and anyone otherwise connected with operation or fulfilment of the Competition are not eligible to participate in the Competition. Viasat reserves the right to require participants to prove that they are eligible. If the winner(s) of a prize are found to be ineligible, Viasat reserves the right to award the prize concerned to another participant and to require the return of any prize already awarded to such an ineligible winner.
3. Participants will enter the Competition individually (no groups).
4. Starting 8:00 am (London Time) Wednesday 8 January 2025 you will be able to register and carry out the below Application Process in order to enter the Competition. You can also submit your 'interest' from this date and receive updates on the competition. All answers to enter Phase 1 of the Competition must be submitted between 8:00 am (IST) Monday 27 January 2025 and no later than 11:59 pm (IST) on Sunday 2 March 2025. You are required to complete the below Application Process (as mentioned below) in order to submit your responses, so please plan for enough time before this deadline. There are three (3) phases to the Competition, as set out below:
How to enter
Phase 1 – Question and answer
Phase 1 of the Competition will operate on the Springpod website at the following URL address: springpod.viasat.com (the "Website"). http://viasat.springpod.com/The Competition will be run and entries will be expected to be submitted in English.
- Participants are invited to submit answers to four (4) questions via an online form located on the Website, and to be accessed as follows: each participant will need to first create an account/log in on the Website (the "Account") and complete an application form by 2 March 2025 (the "Application Process"), in order to enter the Competition, access the content of the questions and submit their entries throughout the Competition, as well as to access a series of webinars and other resources with useful information during the Competition. Once the Application Process has been completed, the participants will receive an email to the email address indicated in their application form, confirming if their application has been accepted, their log in details and access to the platform where the content of the competition's assignments and online form for Phase 1 will be available.
- The maximum character limit per answer shall be indicated in the Website but this is planned to be: (i) 200 words for question #1, (ii) 400 words for question #2, (iii) 200 words for question #3 and (iv) 200 words for question #4.
- The questions shall have a space theme. Viasat shall release the questions on the Website on or before the date that the Competition commences on Monday 27 January 2025. You may carry out the Application Process from 8:00 am (London Time) Wednesday 8 January 2025 but entries cannot be submitted until after the questions are released on the Website.
- All answers must be submitted to the online form located on the Website by 11:59 pm (IST) on Sunday 2 March 2025.
- If more than 3,000 entries are received, a maximum of 3,000 entries will be randomly selected for review and marking. All answers shall be assessed by Springpod and an experienced assessor. The participants who submitted the entries ranked to be within the top 100 entries marked, shall be progressed to Phase 2 of the Competition. The ranking of all Phase 1 entries shall be based on the judging criteria available at http://springpod.viasat.com/marking-rubric. Any ties between entries competing to be in the top 100 will be resolved by random selection.
- Springpod shall notify the successful participants, who are through to Phase 2 of the Competition, on or before Monday 24 March 2025 using the email address notified with their entries when they were submitted to the Website and also via their Account.
Phase 2 – Digital Entry
- Successful participants from Phase 1 will be invited to use the questions asked for Phase 1 and expand on their proposed solution/answers, by submitting their proposed solution in a digital format that is either video, reel, animation, or audio, of no more than ninety (90) seconds in length, their answer and proposed solution to the questions (the “Phase 2 Entry”). We encourage you to use any tools you have access to and to be creative.
- Participants must create and submit a Phase 2 Entry which explains in more detail the solution or concept they have proposed in answering the questions in Phase 1. Participants can detail their solution in one or more of the areas of policy, design, and technical solutions. As well as a very brief overview of your concept, your digital submission should focus on the following information: (i) The cost, (ii) Feasibility, (iii) Originality, (iv) Energy efficiency, (v) Waste minimisation, (vi) Longevity & durability, (vii) Sustainable design and materials, and (viii) Regulatory hurdles.
- The Phase 2 Entry must be submitted via the Participant's Account in mp4 format for any video/reel or animation, or mp3 format for audio, and maximum file size of 100MB irrespective of format. Students can only submit one file. If they have multiple files, they may create a ZIP file and upload this.
- This Phase 2 of the Competition commences on Monday 24 March 2025. All Phase 2 Entries must be submitted on or before 11:59 pm (IST) Sunday 18 May 2025.
- All Digital Entries shall be assessed by Springpod and an independent experienced assessor. The participants who created the Phase 2 Entries ranked by Springpod and the assessor to be within the top 8 entries shall be progressed to Phase 3 of the Competition and will be notified they have been selected on or before 2 June 2025. The ranking of all Phase 2 Entries shall be based on the on the judging criteria available at http://springpod.viasat.com/marking-rubric. Phase 3 – Finals
- Successful participants from Phase 2 (the “Finalists”) are invited to present their Phase 1 proposed concept/solution and the content of their Phase 2 Entries, based on the judging criteria available at http://springpod.viasat.com/marking-rubric (and based on the objectives to be informed to participants prior to the event), to a panel of judges (including at least 1 (one) independent judge) at an in-person final event to be held during the week of September 21, 2025. The exact date and time of the Final as well as the expected objectives will be confirmed to the email of the Finalists as well as to their guardian, as indicated in the application form (the "Final").
- At the Final, Finalists will be asked to present in a fifteen (15) minute presentation, their explanation to the panel. This 15-minute presentation period will be followed by an additional fifteen (15) minute discussion period during which the Finalists should be prepared to engage in conversation with the panel. The presentation shall include a comprehensive overview of the Finalists' idea/solution, which may include various forms of digital media, physical media/prototypes, and other methods of illustrating and demonstrating your proposed solution. Finalists will be expected to—at minimum—have presentation slides (Google, PowerPoint, Prezi, etc.) to accompany their 15-minute verbal presentation. Finalists are welcomed but not required to bring additional elements (e.g., prototypes, printed materials, etc.). Additionally, Finalists must submit a written executive summary of their proposed solution for the presentation, of maximum 750 words and not exceeding two (2) pages, which must be submitted via the Website or email, as communicated by Viasat, at least ten (10) business days prior to the Final. A template will be provided on the Website or by email, which Finalists must use for their executive summary.
- Phase 3 of the Competition shall commence when the objectives are released to Finalists (via the email indicated above) on 2 June 2025.
- Each participant will be assigned one (1) mentor to coach them through this Phase of the Competition and help them to craft and refine their presentation ("Mentor"). Each Mentor shall be an employee of Viasat or one of Viasat's group companies.
- Mentors shall check in with their participants regularly in the run-up to the Final. These check-ins could be offered online or in person, depending on where the Mentor is based and the participants live. Mentors can support each participant with soft skills (e.g. presentation skills and techniques and the structure of the presentation) but cannot give advice on the content of the presentation which shall be delivered within the Final.
- Each Finalist shall be entitled to at least two (2), one (1)-hour sessions (online), to receive support from their Mentor before the Final, and at least two (2), four (4) hour in-person sessions, the days before the Final in the Venue (defined below), to be scheduled between the hours of 8 am and 9 pm (IST), as communicated to the Finalists in advance to their email.
- The Final shall take place in-person in New Delhi, India, (the "Venue") and participants shall be notified of the exact location, date and time of the Final no later than 4 July 2025.
- For Finalists to attend the Final, Viasat will assume the following costs: for Finalists that live outside of o the Venue: (a) travel costs of each Finalist, from their city of residence within India to the Venue and from the Venue to their city of residence (travel means to be selected by Viasat), (b) accommodation in the Venue (3-4 star hotel, chosen by Viasat, breakfast included) for each Finalist, for three (3) nights (i.e. to cover the night day before the Final, the night of the Final and the night following the Final). Viasat will also offer a gift card to cover reasonable expenses (the amount to be determined by Viasat in its sole discretion) per Finalist ("Ground Travel Giftcard") for the first day of inbound to the Venue and a second Ground Travel Giftcard for the last day, outbound from the Venue. Finalists will be responsible for transport to the airport/train station in their city of residence, and transport to the hotel once in the Venue. All travel and accommodation shall be arranged by Viasat who will contact the Finalist for booking. Once issued, any train tickets cannot be re-issued and date or routing changes are not permitted. All trains and accommodation are subject to availability and usual booking terms and conditions apply. The train tickets and hotel vouchers offered by Viasat cannot be applied to the cost of any previously purchased reservations or other miscellaneous charges.
- Finalists will be contacted to the email address that they indicated when they registered in the Competition, to confirm their attendance prior to the Final, and arrange travel and accommodation with Viasat, one (1) month before the Final. Viasat will directly manage, choose and book all necessary travel to and out of Delhi and accommodation in coordination with the Finalists. No reimbursement is possible.
- The overall winner shall be chosen by the judging panel at the Final, from all complete, eligible, properly presented submissions at the Final. The winner shall be notified that they have won on the day of the Final and there will be one (1) final winner selected for each of the following places: first, second and third place. Any ties of presentations competing for the same place will be selected at random.
5. Entry to the Competition is free; no purchase is necessary.
6. To enter the Competition, you must enter in accordance with the details in Section 4 above. Entries submitted by any other means will not be accepted: only those submitted via the official method of entry. Any illegible, incomplete or fraudulent entries will be rejected. Participants may make a maximum of 1 entry into the Competition and participants may not enter the Competition more than once. Any entries in addition to this may result in their disqualification. The prizes to be won are the following, depending on each place awarded at the end of the Final (each, a "Prize"):
